Tapping Tips and Techniques-I.E.I.T.(EFT)
Techniques
Sreenivas had to contact his brother Jai to pass on some message. Jai was traveling in a bus to Mysore. He had a mobile, but it was unreachable. Sreenivas decided to communicate to him through Tapping.
He went on tapping and started telling mentally to Jai, whatever he wanted to say. After 45 minutes he got a call from Jai. Sreenivas asked Jai what made him to call. Jai replied that he had an urge to call Sreenivas as soon as he can. He waited for the bus to stop and made a quick call from a STD booth.
During a winter season in Bangalore I was having a serious sinus problem. I tried to contact Balakumar but I couldn’t get across to him. So I contacted Samabavi, daughter of Balakumar, whose ideas I had always found very useful. I told her about my problem. She suggested tapping, for which I replied that it doesn’t seem to work for me at all. She suggested me to tapp on the Gamut point and say that ‘tapping is not working for me and so on’. Interestingly my sinus came down. Within five minutes of tapping. May be tapping doesn’t know it doesn’t work!!! Thus it is always effective!!!
Same day I was leaving home to meet my allopathic doctor. Suddenly I started getting wheezing and I couldn’t even manage to walk. Somehow I stepped out of the house but couldn’t go any further. I sat down on the footsteps in the apartment complex and started wheezing heavily. I felt ashamed that I was too weak wheezing in front of everybody.
I was keeping Rescue Remedy in my pocket. I took it on my left hand (as it is the receiving hand) with a symbolic idea that I am holding onto Rescue Remedy for help. I pressed the Gamut point few times. Within few minutes the wheezing cam down and I could go to the doctor’s place without any problems.
Interestingly once I reached his place, I started wheezing again but I felt confident as the doctor was there to help me.
Disease has an emotional component too. When we tap, we handle that part which speeds up the recovery process.
While tapping, chant the names of the Bach Flowers. You are activating those remedies in your energy system.
Let us say I have a bad memory problem and I would like to fix it and I know somebody who has a better memory. Then I could do this way: while tapping I have to say the expression “Even though I have a memory problem trying to remember financial details I choose to use the resource of Krishnan to remember them’. By doing so, I access the resource of Krishnan that enables him to remember financial details.
Solution steps:
Ø Here we are not denying the current state, which we would like to change. So our conscious mind doesn’t deny the expression as true, which happens whenever we say positive suggestions about ourselves.
Ø Then we link the negative state with a positive desired state.
Ø Thus whenever you go to the negative state, your mind automatically chooses the positive state.
Ø You may ask how could access the resource of somebody. The answer is that we have resources inside us to accomplish all our desires. We just don’t access them and use it to your advantage.
Some examples:
“Even though I am angry about Ragu, I choose to be calm and composed”
“Even though I fear that I won’t complete reading this book, I choose to use the resource of Helga to finish the book”. (Helga an associate of mine from UK is a voracious reader. While I have a tendency to read few books at the same time. After using the expression, I could not keep the concerned book I was reading then until I finish reading it).
“Even though I am afraid I won’t win the race, I choose to use the resource of rabbit while competing in the race” (A 10 year old child did this exercise and came first in the race)
A Telegu speaking lady – who doesn’t read or speak English, wrote the ‘Even Though’ expression she required in Telegu and did the tapping. Interestingly she got the required healing.
It looks like that healing is beyond all language and distance barriers.
When the problem is intense and overwhelming, adopt this technique.
Solution steps:
Ø Visualize the problem as much as you can, whether the problem is real or expected/assumed.
Ø Keep tapping while visualizing.
Ø As you tap you will realize the feelings behind the problem is getting less intensified and the problem doesn’t sound very big now.
Ø What happens here? Thanks to our negative feelings we stop ourselves from achieving the results we wish for. When those feelings are released, we then tap into the resource we require to achieve the outcome.
Solution steps:
Ø Visualize the outcome or the goal you wanted to achieve.
Ø Keep tapping.
Ø You will become more relaxed and less anxious about the outcome.
Ø Do it first thing in the morning until you achieve your goal.
Ø As days goes by you will feel more and more confident that you can achieve the goal comfortably.
Let us say you wanted to become rich.
Solution steps:
Ø Keep looking at goddess Lakshmi’s picture
Ø Observe the details of the picture minutely
Ø Do tapping.
Or let us you wanted to work in New York.
Ø Make a collage of New York and yourself in front of a computer
Ø Start tapping and keep looking at the picture.
Let me give an example from my side. The one thought that comes on my head whenever I am about to handle a situation is ‘I am not able to do it’ (‘Ennala Mudiyala in Tamil). Like wise each one of us will have certain expressions going on in the head most of the times, which we would like to change.
Solution steps:
Ø Keep saying that expression in whatever form and language that comes inside your head.
Ø Do tapping.
Ø Now use the positive expression which is opposite of the negative expression (for example in my case ‘I am able to do it’ in Tamil) that has been filling your mind.
Ø Do tapping.
Ø This way you are replacing the negative expression with positive expression. Over a period of time the negative expression will simply vanish from your mind. Thus you are taking pro-active steps to change your mind. And when you change your mind then your life changes too.
Tapping is a wonderful tool when you are doing meditation or relaxing after a tiring day.
Solution steps:
Ø Keep tapping on all points by placing the fingers in each position for at least one minute in each point.
Ø Watch your breathing will give an added effect.
Ø Lie down during the session, preferably in Savasana or Corpse posture.
Ø And don’t think about any topics.
Ø This will remove all the stress from your mind.
This technique will be useful when you want to develop some character in you, for example ‘Confidence’.
Choose a word or expression. My favorite is ‘deep sleep’ and Balakumar suggested to me ‘Sorrow less happiness’. While tapping keep on repeat the expression. Each time I try this technique, I go into a deep sleep, while my family members into ‘sorrow full wakefulness’, thanks to my snoring.
Life is all about negotiations, finding a middle path and a win/win situation for everybody concerned.
Solution steps:
Ø Decide how you want to go about the conversation.
Ø Then imagine how the other person will react to it
Ø And finally imagine the desired outcome by both the parties will be achieved by the healthy conversation you had.
Ø Note the conversation on paper if it is quite lengthy (optional).
Ø Using your right (giving or action) hand do tapping and start imagining how you will start the conversation.
Ø Whenever the other person has to remark, tap with left (receiving) hand and imagine how they will answer/converse.
Ø Continue the imaginary conversation to the end.
Ø When you meet the person next time, start the conversation the way you had planned.
Ø You will get a surprise that the other person will react the same way you had imagined. As Balakumar says we are all connected sub-consciously.
Your child did not want to listen to any of your reasoning. In front of the child keep tapping and telling it mentally what you wanted to say. Definitely you can be sure that your child will understand where you are coming from.
Sreenivas does this technique whenever he has communications issues with his child. He says within ten minutes of tapping he finds his son responding to his suggestions.
Please note here that that father is not influencing the son, but making the son, understand the given situation. He is facilitating the communication process.
A mother was complaining that her son is not concentrating on his studies. Balakumar asked her to tap herself to handle the feelings she has for her son. Within few days of her tapping, he started studying without any prompting.
Raji, a friend of Shobana had muscle cramps. She called up on Shobana and asked her to send Reiki. Shobana decided to do tapping instead.
Solution steps:
Ø She said ‘I am Raji’ for few times.
Ø Then she imagined herself as Raji and did tapping.
Ø Fifteen minutes later she received a call from Raji asking her what miracle she did as her problem had vanished away completely.
Shobana handled another case as well. A child was thumb sucking even though she is five years old.
Solution steps:
Ø Shobana took a print out of the tapping points.
Ø Then she wrote the name of the child on top of the paper.
Ø She started tapping on the points printed on the paper and kept saying ‘Asha you are giving up on thumb sucking’.
Ø Within two days Asha stopped thumb sucking.
After a few intensive Reiki sessions, a student of Balakumar got a severe headache, thanks to her 3rd eye getting filled with too much of energy. She tapped for 15 minutes and her headaches disappeared.
Whenever we need to take an action we find lots of resistance inside us and so we fail to act. We might have the required potential. We would have done the same thing successfully in the past, for example a writer facing what is known as ‘Writer’s Block’ and couldn’t do any creative endeavors. In these cases tapping will help us to remove the mental blocks and resistance we have inside us.
For example Suri was doing Yoga for six months non-stop for a hour a day. Suddenly she felt sick for a week. After recovering from her disease, for some reason or other she couldn’t go to the yoga class at all. She found some excuses or other. Also she felt guilty that she is not going for the yoga classes.
She did tapping while mentally going over excuses and guilt feelings she felt. Suddenly one day she started going for the yoga class and from then she never stopped going.
Solution steps:
Ø Release the thoughts that forms the mental blocks as well as resistance to desired action(s)
Ø Do tapping until the resistance is released
Ø There will be some associated thoughts, for example guilt. Do tapping and remove those feelings too.
Ø One good way to do is accept them and then release them (say mentally I accept and release my guilt feelings), for each feeling of ours exists to serve a purpose. So accept them before releasing.
Ø When you accept a feeling, 50% of the intensity of the feeling will come down.
Ø Continue this process until you release all thoughts related to the action(s).
Ø You will achieve a no-mind state.
Ø In this state you will find solutions to all problems and will find strength to handle all issues.
Classic example is: South Africa in the one-day world cup held in 2003, lost to India from a wining position. Thanks to over-confidence, they lost two quick wickets. From there they didn’t know how to recover, for they were not ready to handle the situation they were in.
So release pride, ego and desire to fame. You will be full of energy; task oriented to do only what is required by the situation and not what you want from the situation. The universe will provide the needful.
Balakumar before writing the topic ‘Letting Go’, he kept on releasing all his expectations about the response he expected from his students. Interestingly he says that it reached more people than ever before and got an excellent response too.
Tips
How do I tap?
Ø Tap at each of the 15 points, pressing up and down five times with your fingers. Apply very little pressure. Do not press to hard.
Ø Make sure you use all the four fingers – except the thumb, as you can be sure that you are pressing the right place.
Ø You could buy the Acupressure Stick and use them, instead of the fingers. This is useful when you are applying tapping on somebody else who may feel awkward if you touch him or her on certain points.
Ø Alternatively without pressing up and down, just apply pressure and hold on to the point for at least 5 to 10 seconds. This is useful when your fingers are tired or hurt. Choose what you feel best. I find this method very convenient when I do tapping in the office or in public places when I don’t want others to know that I am tapping. I prefer longer time too at each position, say for two to three minutes. Of course go by your gut feelings and choose the method that you feel comfortable and better.
Ø A quick technique to tapping would be to cup each of the fingers of both hands with the other hand. Hold each finger at a time and move across it pressing on all sides of the finger. This is equally effective like other methods. So you will be tapping on all the ten fingers.
How many cycles of tapping I have to do?
Ø Once you finish one cycle of tapping, ask yourself whether you feel better.
o Sometimes you will feel better even before completing one cycle, and then you may stop at that point.
o In other situations after completing a cycle if you feel your emotions are not completely released then continue doing for some more cycles, until you feel better.
o Sometimes you may not feel better completely. Even then you can stop if you feel it is ok to stop, especially during the night. Most probably after a good night sleep, you will see those symptoms vanish completely.
Ø Continuing to do tapping for some more days if the problem persists. Definitely you will see improvement after each tapping session.
Tapping Positions
Ø When you can’t manage to tap in all the points due to circumstances, for example when you are attending an office meeting where you won’t be able to tap in front of others. In those situations, tap on the hands only. There are some emergency situations when you are too tired to tap on all those points. Then tap on triple warmer (gamut) point only. Ideally, it is better you tap on all those fifteen points
Ø Order of tapping positions doesn’t matter. You can start from any position. To make sure that you don’t miss any point start from the beginning of the eyebrow position.
Ø Certain points like Gamut, Collar Bone etc are available on both sides of our bodies. You may tap on any one side.
Ø While doing on the face and chest positions, you may tap on both sides
Other stuff
Ø Tapping is used as an alternative therapy. A healing may require at multiple levels. While Allopathic treatments work at the physical level, tapping works on thoughts and emotion. Therefore, please do not discontinue the treatment you are already undergoing.
Ø What to say when you are tapping? Whatever you might be feeling or be saying before you started tapping, please say the same thing. More the words are true better the results will be. Say it silently if you prefer. But when you say it aloud (assuming there is nobody is near to you) then the words are true automatically and your mind won’t be wandering too. |
